How to Pray in Islam Correctly

Learning how to pray in Islam correctly is one of the most important parts of being a young Muslim. Prayer (Salah) is our way to talk to Allah, say thank you, and feel peace in our hearts. This guide will show kids how to pray in Islam correctly in a fun and simple way. We will also learn the pillars of prayer in Islam, so you always know what to do!

1. Get Ready for Prayer (Wudu – Ablution)

Before you start, you need to be clean. That means doing Wudu. It’s easy and fun to learn! You wash your hands, face, arms, and feet. This helps you feel fresh and ready to stand before Allah.

Remember: You must do Wudu every time you lose it (like after using the bathroom or sleeping).

2. Face the Qibla and Make Intention (Niyyah)

Stand straight, face the direction of the Kaaba in Makkah, and say in your heart that you want to pray. This is called “Niyyah.” It’s very important because it means you’re doing it only for Allah.

This is a key part of learning how to pray in Islam correctly.

3. Learn the 5 Pillars of Salah (Prayer)

The pillars of prayer in Islam are like the foundation of a strong house. Here they are:

    • Takbir – Say “Allahu Akbar” and raise your hands
This is how we begin our prayer. Stand straight, lift both hands next to your ears or shoulders, and say “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest). This shows that you are ready to speak to Allah. When you raise your hands, it’s like saying goodbye to the outside world and focusing only on your prayer. It’s a peaceful and respectful way to start. Make sure you stand still and think about Allah with your heart.

    • Standing and Reciting – Recite Surah Al-Fatiha and another short surah
While standing, place your right hand over your left hand on your chest. Then, recite Surah Al-Fatiha, the Opening of the Quran. After that, choose a short surah like Surah Al-Ikhlas. Say each verse clearly and calmly. This part helps you talk to Allah using the words from His holy book. Reciting these surahs is a way to show love and devotion.

    • Ruku’ – Bow down and say “Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem”         How to Pray in Islam Correctly
After reciting, bend forward so your back is straight like a table and your hands are on your knees. Say “Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem” (Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great) three times. This is a sign of respect and shows how humble we are before Allah. Keep your head in line with your back and look down at the place of sujood.

    • Sujood – Prostrate on the ground and say “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” How to Pray in Islam Correctly
Go down and place your forehead and nose on the ground, along with your hands, knees, and toes. Say “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” (Glory is to my Lord, the Most High). This is the closest position to Allah, and it’s a perfect time to ask Him for anything. Stay still, breathe slowly, and say the words with love. Sujood teaches us to be humble and connected to our Creator.

    • Tashahhud & Tasleem – Sit, recite Tashahhud, and end with “Assalamu Alaikum”
Sit down on your knees and recite the Tashahhud (testimony of faith and peace). Point with your index finger while saying it. Then, to end your prayer, turn your head to the right and say “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah”, then to the left and say it again. This is how you say goodbye and send peace to the angels and people around you. It’s a peaceful end to your prayer.

Knowing these helps kids understand How to Pray in Islam Correctly step by step.

4. Practice Each Position With Love

Each part of the prayer teaches us something special:

  • Ruku’ shows respect,

  • Sujood shows full trust in Allah,

  • Tashahhud is when we remember our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Let your child practice slowly and repeat after you. Make it a fun activity!

5. Pray Every Day and Ask Allah for Help

Muslims pray five times a day. But don’t worry – you can start one by one. The more you practice, the easier it becomes.
Tell your child: “Whenever you pray, you are never alone. Allah is always listening.”

That’s the beauty of learning how to pray in Islam correctly!

🌟 Bonus Tip: Make Salah Fun!

Use prayer charts, stickers, or reward stars to encourage kids. Let them wear their favorite prayer clothes. Turn it into a beautiful daily habit.
